The bidding process has formally opened for companies who wish to take over the broadcast and press centres at the Olympic Park in London. Companies will have until the 2nd of December - around nine weeks in total - to submit their proposals. Up to a million square feet of business space in Hackney Wick near East London, as well as in the brand new district of East Wick is available in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park following the 2012 Olympic Games.
There will be 575,000 square feet of commercial space across two floors and 95,000 square feet of office space across five floors across five floors in the broadcast centre, which also has the flexibility to be able to be reconfigured into as many as four separate buildings. The press centre, which is five storeys tall, offers around 317,000 square feet of office space with potential for being used as retail space on the ground floor.
Andrew Altman, the chief executive officer of the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC), says that the centres have already created "a huge amount of commercial interest", predicting that the district, which is the first commercial space of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, could become a "thriving centre for enterprise".
Jules Pipe, the Mayor of Hackney, adds that "It has been our vision for some time to see the site used for the expansion of the creative and digital industries which are already thriving in Hackney".
