Government offices that are disused are to be offered to entrepreneurs who are attempting to set up their own businesses, Prime Minister David Cameron has announced. Cameron unveiled the plans during a trip to Yorkshire, where he delivered a speech to a group of would-be entrepreneurs.
The move to offer the office space is part of an attempt to support new enterprises as well as to deliver desperately needed boost to the private sector. It is almost certain that the news of the UK government's intention to offer over 300 premises at very low rates for 12 months will be very well received.
"Expenditure on rented Soho office space is one of the biggest concerns for entrepreneurs," says the co-chief executive officer of The Office Group, Olly Olsen. "So today's move by David Cameron to use government offices to help budding entrepreneurs launch their own business is welcomed by The Office Group. Monthly office space is at record levels, with tenants paying up to £1200 per workstation, per month in London. This scheme could help to cut this cost and
help Britain's economy grow."
The move is also likely to be a popular decision in the cash-strapped Treasury, which will be receiving the additional revenue on the empty buildings in question while they await resale. A storm of advertising is expected to herald "The Business In You" initiative.
