In business, there are many different types of office space solutions used, at times in conjunction with one another, in order to contribute to the overall success of an organization. The 'front office' is a typical sales and/or marketing-oriented environment where the majority of a business's main revenue-generating activities take place. These front offices are typically geared towards the Class A-type, meaning the office should be located in a prestigious business district surrounded by other successful corporations and firms to illustrate a healthy level of success towards current and future clientele.
Behind the front office team, a 'middle office' may be located in the same building with largely a similar role. Although on a less visible scale, middle offices are related with financial services where staff is invested in capturing accurate profit flows for a corporation. The term 'middle man' applies directly to the staff working in these middle offices, as they are the direct link between the frontrunners in the sales department, and the backbone of the organization, or the 'back office' staff. Generally reserved for IT specialists and other taskmasters responsible for keeping the day-to-day running of a company going smoothly, back offices can also refer to original equipment manufacturers or even administration staff that aren't typically seen by the customers as often as the sales/marketing team of the front office are.
With many businesses opting to streamline office properties and assimilate their staff into one location, it helps to have flexible serviced offices with the ability to quickly add space onto an existing front office rental agreement to accommodate back/middle offices. Otherwise, many corporations will find it difficult to realize a return on an business property they can no longer use, without taking a significant loss on the sale of the property due to a troubled economy.
